A newly developed preceptorship programme has been introduced by Skills for Care, aimed at providing structured support for adult social care nurses across England. This initiative is designed to enhance early career development and help ease the transition into the professional care environment.
The programme will be delivered through a series of virtual learning sessions, including an introductory webinar outlining the concept of preceptorship, a specialised workshop for those acting as preceptors, and additional online training opportunities. These sessions aim to empower both new nurses and their mentors with the practical tools and confidence needed to succeed in social care roles.
Focused on bridging the gap between formal education and workplace practice, the package encourages effective mentorship and supports high standards of care delivery. Preceptorship is typically recommended during the initial employment phase for newly registered nurses, with guidance frameworks already established across the UK health systems.
Although a complete schedule has not yet been announced, Skills for Care is committed to offering a well-structured learning pathway. Feedback will be gathered to continuously refine the programme and ensure it remains practical and relevant to the evolving needs of the sector.
This new support package represents a significant step in strengthening the adult social care nursing workforce, contributing to professional growth, improved retention, and better outcomes for those receiving care.
